Tapping the thumbs-up tells us the story resonated — one tap, done. The thumbs-down opens a small menu: "Not for me" sends a downvote, and depending on how the story is tagged, you may also see options to flag the wrong area or wrong topic.

A place built for local news.
Most people reach the news through closed social media platforms run by algorithms and AI tools. None of them are built for local news. The Stoop fills this gap.
It started as a news and data feed of New York city's local, neighborhood and community media. Once the local feed was refined, it added a national feed (currently in testing) to show what matters across the country as local and community media report it.
* Our headlines use Cooper Hewitt, a typeface the Smithsonian's design museum in New York made open source. Like The Stoop, it comes from New York and is free.

National
Local news across the country, from more than 600 local and community newsrooms in all 50 states: the stories the most newsrooms are covering, then each city’s newest. Tap ♡ on a story to favorite its city.
How it works
- Curated sources. We choose every source: trusted local, microlocal and community newsrooms, and public data. No anonymous accounts. No social media posts.
- Algorithms for local and community news. One for each feed. They group the stories several newsrooms cover and rank what matters, so you can follow the local conversation. They keep learning, so the feed keeps getting better.
- Favorites. Tap ♡ on a story you like, then add its newsroom to your Favorites. Their stories come first in your feed and your 7am email. Tap ⋯ to see less from a newsroom, or to tell us something's wrong. It becomes your own local RSS reader, one ♡ at a time.
Every headline comes from a journalist or a public source. Every story links to the newsroom that reported it. AI ranks and groups stories. It never writes or rewrites what you read. Nothing is deleted: stories we're less sure about stay one tap away.
For newsrooms
The Stoop helps local reporting reach the public. Your headline stays yours. Every click goes to you. Run a local newsroom, or know one we're missing? Send it to us. We review every one.
The details
